Hi Neighbor,
If someone used 🥑 in a text or on social media, I’d probably think it means "let’s get some avocado toast?" 🤷♀️ Teens use it to mean ‘basic’ – or something so trendy that it’s not cool anymore.
Being a parent is hard in this world of ours! Navigating kids' social media and keeping up with the changing technology is a full-time job. I recently watched Netflix’s British psychological crime drama Adolescence, and it was an eye-opener for me 👀. (Apparently, 👀 is not what I think it means.)
The series highlighted that different generations use emojis very differently, and it plays out in the series.
So I did a little digging that I’m happy to share 💁♀️. Let’s dive into how each generation uses emojis, especially teens! 🎢

State of the Arts is a testament to the collective vitality of this community, an open-ended conversation that spans generations and genres, while paying tribute to those who laid the groundwork for a thriving creative future.
This exhibition is a celebration of the bold, diverse, and ever-evolving voices in the MainLine’s contemporary art community.
State of the Arts brings together a dynamic group of local artists, painters, sculptors, digital creators, and those pushing boundaries in unexpected directions. The only guiding principle? Creative freedom. By providing the space for artists to explore their own unique visions, we invite an organic unfolding of themes, from personal introspection to societal reflections, without being tethered to any one idea. Rather than narrowing our focus, we’ve opened the doors for experimentation, discovery, and conversation. The result is an eclectic showcase of work that touches on the emotional, intellectual, and political undercurrents of today’s world, unfiltered, authentic, and unapologetically local.

The multi-day competition will begin on Sunday, May 4. Over the next six days and traveling to numerous locations within a 30 mile radius of Wayne, artists will create approximately 300 original works, drawing inspiration from the charming towns, pastoral farms, historical architecture and lush landscapes found throughout our region. All paintings will be completed on site and from direct observation which is what it means to paint “en plein air.”
