Hi Neighbor!

Hundreds of photographs live in old, worn shoeboxes tucked onto a bookshelf. Some are older than my years, capturing moments long forgotten until I lift the lid.

There is my mother’s face, lit up by the Christmas tree, in her housecoat. It was the 70s.

My dad in his Army fatigues on the coast of Italy.

My oldest brother on prom night, wearing a baby-blue tuxedo with white Converse high-tops, always the rebel, standing in front of the enormous blue spruce in our front yard—the usual backdrop for any family occasion that required us to dress up and pose for a picture.

A carefree pack of teens in a backyard, feeling invincible, thinking we'd never get old. READ MORE

The Longevity Movement Series:
Mitochondrial Enhancement
PQQ

Our cells’ main energy center is the mitochondria, and its main output is ATP. Thousands of the cellular powerhouses reside in almost every cell of our bodies. By using oxygen along with dietary protein, fat, & carbohydrates, energy is created along with byproducts such as free radicals. These free radicals can in turn produce oxidative stress or rusting to simply within our body. It has been theorized that mitochondrial fatigue is at the root of many chronic disease states like dementia, neurological diseases and mental health ailments to name a few.

One compound that has gained significant attention in combatting some of this oxidative or rusting damage at the cellular level is PQQ or Pyroloquinolone Quinone. Some studies have shown that a PQQ deficiency can create up to a 30% reduction in the number of mitochondria found in cells. PQQ also has actions in other beneficial pathways like sirtuins and AMPK. Dosages typically used range between 10-20mg daily and are often found in combination products supporting mitochondrial function. In practice this has often been a valuable addition to TBI clients as well as post stroke. As usual, a reputable brand that uses high-quality raw materials along with 3rd party testing should be considered a Must.

This 8-year-old Husky proves age is just a number with his larger-than-life personality and endless puppy energy. Gywn is working on polite canine manners to balance his playful nature. He’d do best with an active family who’ll give him plenty of opportunities to burn off energy and include him in all of life's adventures. Adoption fee waived for adopters 65+.

Adorable Jake, the Jack Russell Terrier, is looking for his next (and best) chapter in life! He doesn't need much but like any senior, he just wants comfy beds and short walks each day.
