Hey Neighbor!

Last month, I became enmeshed in my own traffic snafu when my car stalled on Lancaster Avenue during the morning rush. After several futile attempts to restart my car, I texted a tow truck from the Ford app and was resigned to wait the “estimated” amount of time for its arrival. Eventually I became a hot, hangry mess, but the happy ending from this misadventure was one of kindness, gratitude and paying it forward, a belief that people are still good.

Here are my documented encounters with kindness that day. READ MORE

Paying it forward,
Jackie

The Longevity Movement Series Hormones Part 3: Estrogen

-By Michael Briggs

We will be focusing on the many benefits of Estrogen in Part 3 of our hormonal series. There are 3 estrogens in a woman’s body, Estrone (E1), Estradiol (E2), & Estriol (E3).

We will focus mainly on Estradiol & Estriol as these are the 2 estrogens typically pursued by physicians when formulating a replacement therapy regimen. Estrogen differs from Progesterone & Testosterone as its production does not begin to decline in perimenopause. However, once a woman enters Menopause, levels can decline rapidly leading to increased risks for heart disease, dementia & osteoporosis.

The benefits of replacing estrogens always start with the 4 pillars of Brain, Bones, Heart, & Immune System. Other benefits include improvements in joint function, skin health, & genitourinary function. Considerations for estrogen replacement should always include testing a patient’s levels through blood, saliva, or urine, family & medical history, as well as current symptoms. When we work with patients and physicians, we typically compound transdermal or sublingual forms of estrogen combinations as oral formulations have shown to raise inflammatory markers like C- reactive protein. As always, a personalized approach that tailors a dosage & form to each woman’s unique needs allows for optimal patient satisfaction & outcomes.

Michael Briggs, PharmD, CNC, ICCT serves as COO of Lionville Natural Pharmacy and has been published in The Professional Guide to Complementary & Alternative Therapies, Complementary and Alternative Medicine for Older Adults. The Nursing Drug Handbook Series, and Pharmacotherapy.

Britain has beauty and brains. She’s a 5 year-old German Shepherd who spent her life forced to have puppies who were all sold. She needs a Shepherd-experienced family with someone at home to provide patience so she knows she’s safe. She will stick to her person like glue! Britain could live with a larger, calm dog but it would be best if she was the only canine object of her family's attention. Britain deserves a chance at happiness.

Sweet, affectionate Viola was found as a stray and brought to a local overcrowded shelter where she was to be euthanized. All 4 Paws rescued her and discovered Viola to be a fully trained, silly, and easy-going love bug. She loves to play and snuggle, reports her foster family. She'd do well with a larger doggy pal who likes to play. Viola is a snack queen too - she'll try just about anything and LOVES bananas! She hasn't told anyone her age, but what girl does? Best guess is she’s about 4 years old. Viola is microchipped, spayed and up to date on all medical. She needs a family to love.
