Healthy Aging Month:
Everyday Habits for Lifelong Wellness

September is Healthy Aging Month, a time to focus on the daily habits that support physical, cognitive, and emotional well-being. At The Residence at Bala Cynwyd, many of our programs are guided by the S.H.I.E.L.D. lifestyle, a research-based approach to healthy aging. S.H.I.E.L.D. stands for Sleep, Handling Stress, Interaction with Others, Exercise, Learning New Things, and Diet. Together, these habits are associated with better overall health and quality of life, and they help shape daily life within our community.

Nutrition is an important part of healthy aging. Our menus incorporate the Mediterranean-style diet, rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, fish, and healthy fats. Research has linked this way of eating to heart health and potential benefits for brain function.

Looking for a healthy, and more importantly, delicious recipe to try at home? Chef Jeremy shares one of his favorites: swordfish tips. High in protein and packed with vitamins and nutrients, it's a simple and flavorful meal that supports an active lifestyle.

Watch the recipe here.

A healthy lifestyle extends beyond the dinner table. Staying socially connected, remaining physically active, and continuing to learn new things can all contribute to a healthier, more fulfilling life at any age. Through wellness programs, lifelong learning opportunities, fitness classes, and meaningful social connections, these principles are woven into everyday life at The Residence at Bala Cynwyd.

Taking a Step Towards a Cure: Fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association

We are honored to once again join the fight against Alzheimer’s and through the Alzheimer’s Association’s Walk to End ALZ. This cause is close to our hearts, and our team has already raised $1,000 towards our fundraising goal.

There are many ways to get involved: attend one of our fundraisers here at the community, donate to our team, or walk alongside us at the Philadelphia Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Citizens Bank Park on Saturday, November 7th.

Every step, every gift, and every show of support brings us closer to a world without Alzheimer’s. Together, we can make a difference.
