Hi Neighbor!
Oh, the holidays!
How did those words sound to you? Celebratory? Anxiety producing?
Holidays are a mixed bag for me, one that shape-shifts from year to year, seemingly changing with the weather. They test my expectations and flexibility along with the joy of getting together.
The years before kids came along, we set a formal table for Thanksgiving inviting relatives, friends and neighbors who couldn’t be home for the holiday. I loved creating a special space for others to enjoy. Fast forward, combining formal anything with kids didn’t compute. Read More
Happy Thanksgiving,

The Longevity Movement Series Mitochondrial Enhancement Part 2: B Vitamins
In part 2 of our ongoing series and in keeping with alphabetical order we will take a brief look at the many roles of B vitamins in various cellular processes throughout the body. First up is folate, the active form of folic acid that has become a hot topic in the supplement industry due to genetic testing now that looks for MTHFR gene mutations. Folate is involved in methylation processes that include detoxification, neurotransmitter production, and cardiovascular health to name a few. Vitamin B1 or thiamin is a critical cofactor for ATP production (mitochondrial rocket fuel) and metabolism of fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Riboflavin or Vitamin B2 is a precursor to 2 important compounds related to cellular energy production.
While Niacin or Vitamin B3 has a long history of heart health uses, it also acts as a cofactor in the mitochondrial respiratory chain and possesses antioxidant activity. Pantothenic Acid, aka Vitamin B5, is essential to produce fatty & amino acids along with cellular energy production. Vitamin B6, or pyridoxine, is involved in over 100 different reactions in our body including neurotransmitter production, lipid metabolism, hormonal health, detoxification and many more. Lastly Vitamin B12, another hot topic, has been shown to support neurological health, metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, & proteins along with aiding in mitochondrial energy production. It is often deficient in vegetarian & vegan diets so usually important to consider supplementation. This is merely a snippet of the myriads of help that B-vitamins offer us and why we would consider using on a regular basis preferably in methylated form (Folate & B12) to take the guess work out of your genetic blueprint.
