🎒It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.... on the Main Line
Does anyone else remember that Staples commercial where the Dad is dancing down the aisles, tossing school supplies into the cart with joyful abandon while the kids look completely miserable? I still laugh when I see it.
I’ve always loved September. Cooler mornings and evenings, getting back into a routine, it feels like a chance to start fresh. Kind of like January, but without all the pressure to reinvent yourself.
Every September, I try to learn or do something new. This year, that something has been in our backyard.
P.S. If you love gardens put this tour on your calendar: For one day only, the Garden Conservancy is opening the private studio gardens of award-winning landscape designer Donald Pell. Pell has spent nearly 20 years transforming a 14-acre Chester County farm into a gorgeous naturalistic landscape.

34th Annual Radnor Fall Festival Sunday, September 20 • 12–4 PM North Wayne Avenue, Wayne Downtown Wayne comes alive for one of the Main Line’s favorite fall traditions! Featuring kids’ rides and activities, live music and dance performances, local vendors, community organizations, food and the always-popular Top Dog Contest. Details
Paws in the Pool September 14–20 Kaiserman JCC, Wynnewood Before the pool closes for the season, bring your pup for a swim, splash and some canine socializing at the Kaiserman JCC. Both the toddler pool and heated main pool will be open, along with the fenced-in grassy area. Bring a dog toy, food or towels to donate to a local shelter. Registration required. $15 per dog for a daily drop-in. Details

Peddler’s Village Scarecrow Festival September 19 & 20 • 11 AM–6 PM Fall fun is in full swing at Peddler’s Village! Spend the weekend surrounded by creative scarecrows while enjoying pumpkin painting, live music, kids’ activities, lawn games, a bounce house and plenty of seasonal food and drinks. You can even build a life-size scarecrow to take home during a scarecrow-making workshop. While you’re there, stroll the Village to see 100+ handmade scarecrows on display. Details
The Great Pumpkin Carve October 15–17 Chadds Ford Historical Society, Chadds Ford
It’s a Chadds Ford fall tradition! Watch more than 70 giant pumpkins transformed into works of art by local carvers, then see them glowing after dark. The three-day celebration also features a haunted display, live music, raffle prizes, artisan vendors and plenty of food, plus local craft beer and wine for the grown-ups. The pumpkins are carved Thursday and illuminated Friday and Saturday nights. Details
Market of the Macabre Saturday, September 26 • 12–5 PM Laurel Hill East, Philadelphia
For those who like their fall festivities a little darker! Wander through historic Laurel Hill Cemetery and shop 100+ vendors offering magical and morbid curiosities, including oddities and taxidermy, antiques, ceramics, jewelry, spiritual goods, clothing and original art. The Berwyn Indoor Vintage Market has moved from it's former location in The Valley Fair Shopping Center to their brand new bigger location in The Gateway Shopping Center in Wayne.

Presented by Tredyffrin Township, with His Majesty’s 40th Regiment, 2nd Battalion Light Infantry (“Bloodhounds”). Authentic 18th-century British encampment, period uniforms and equipment, weapons demonstrations, military drills, camp life, and interactions with Revolutionary War reenactors.The event explores the British Army’s 1777 Philadelphia campaign and its three-day occupation of Tredyffrin following the Battle of Brandywine.
